Schools Timeline

July 1950 : Annie Holgate Infant School opened by Prof.A.Radford.

June 1957 : Holgate Secondary School opened by Dr.S.Holgate (son of the person after whom the school was named)

Sept.1963 : National “Clasp” building opened ? Montague Road as it states “built on former playing field.”

: Holgate Tech.Grammar opened at a cost of £300,000.

Lean Mills School opened by Wm.Whitlock MP.

Closure of Beardall Street (which was the first Board School in Hucknall built around 1877)on its combination with Tech.Grammar as a Comprehensive.

Edgewood School opened with facilities for community acitivty – library and small swimming pool. (£1.5m improvements carried out Jan.2005)

Whyburn School opened. Later merged with Spring Street and winner of several design awards. Now known as Hillside School.

Broomhill Junior opened.

New Butlers Hill Infant School opened by Fred Riddell supported by Nellie Smedley, both former pupils but now County Councillors.)

1999(Oct) : New College, Hucknall (part of New College, Nottingham) opened.

2005(Jan) : New Science block at National opened.

2006 : Surestart Childrens Centre opened July . In same grounds as new Butlers Hill School.

2007(Oct) : Holy Cross School extended.
